A national credit and debit card breach at restaurants owned by Landry’s Inc. across the country over the past two years affected 7 establishments in New Jersey.
Landry’s Inc., which operates brands including Bubba Gump Shrimp, McCormick & Schmick’s, and Rainforest Cafe, announced the results of an extensive investigation into the breach on their website Friday.
Hackers were able to access customers’ card information from May 2014 through December 2015. The company included a full list of restaurants and casinos that were affected on their website
The seven establishments in New Jersey include:
- Big Fish Seafood Bistro in West Windsor
- Golden Nugget Casino Hotel’s banquets, parking, and spa and salon in Atlantic City
- McCormick & Schmick’s in Bridgewater
- McCormick & Schmick’s in Cherry Hill
- Oceanaire Seafood Room in Hackensack
- Rainforest Café in Atlantic City
- Vic & Anthony’s Steakhouse in Golden Nugget in Atlantic City
The breach also affected three Philadelphia restaurants:
- Chart House
- McCormick & Schmick’s
- Morton’s
Landry’s Inc. said that they launched an investigation into issues with their credit card system in December after receiving a report about suspicious activity at some of the restaurants.
They hired a cyber security firm and discovered that hackers installed a program on some of the systems the restaurants and locations use to process credit cards. With that program Hackers were able to lift names, numbers, expiration dates and internal verification codes from the cards, Landry’s Inc. said.
Hackers used the program from May 2014 through March 2015 and again from May 2015 through December 3, 2015.
Landry’s Inc. said they have heightened security measures to prevent the issue from happening again but they urge anyone who has been to one of their affected locations in the past two years to check for fraud on their cards.
