WAYNE – People driving along Route 46 in Wayne were seeing a different kind of green this St. Patrick’s Day.
Wayne police say a bag of money somehow flew out of an armored truck operated by Garda around 8:30 a.m. Thursday, spilling cash along the roadway.
Paul Redmon, manager of nearby Wayne Ford, gathered his employees to help the guards recover the money. He says that he thinks it was at least $20,000.
“We were out there picking money up,” he says. “$20 bills all over the place.”
The money trail spread for several hundred feet. In addition to the Wayne Ford employees and police officers, other drivers even stopped along Route 46 to help gather the money.
The roadway was closed for a short time.
Police say that the majority of the money was found and returned.
“It’s not mine,” says Wayne Ford lot manager Robert Richard. “I know everyone is watching, so it has to go right back to the person that it came from.”
A spokesperson for Garda declined to say exactly how much money fell off the truck. They did say that they were grateful to the Wayne Police Department and everyone else that helped out.
