The Best Wines, Beers and Spirits to Pair With the Kids’ Halloween Candy
Raiding the trick-or-treating leftovers will be way more enjoyable when you pair them with one of these “adult” beverages.
The kids are in bed and you’re finally getting off your feet after a long night of trick-or-treating. You deserve a drink and some candy as a reward for traipsing around the neighborhood. Enjoy!
Beer
Lagers and Citrus Hard Candies
The kids won’t notice that the hard candy from the old lady down the street are missing and the citrus flavors will be a refreshing contrast to the lager.
Amber Ales and Twix or Kit Kats
The darker ales will go well with the sweet caramels of a Twix or the crispy snap of a kit kat.
Hard Cider and Snickers or Werther’s Candies
The caramel flavors from the snickers and the Werther’s will really bring out the apple flavors of the Hard Ciders.
Hard Root Beer and Vanilla Tootsie Rolls
Think root beer float, without the dairy. Or go all the way and make an actual float with vanilla ice cream!
IPA and Hot Tamales and Sour Patch Kids
These flavor-packed candies can bring out the sourness or spiciness of your favorite IPA.
Raspberry Ale and Dark Chocolate
Berries and Dark Chocolate always go well together, so why not raspberry wheats?
Stouts and Chocolate
A nice hearty stout and a nice flavorful chocolate are a perfect nightcap.
Cheap Beer and Candy Corn
All you’ve got in the fridge is bargain beer? Put it with some of that cheap candy that your kids hate anyway. (We’re not responsible for the stomach ache this may give you).
Spirits
Bourbon and Sour Patch Kids or Milky Ways
The smooth flavor of the bourbon mellows out the sour of the kids, making a nice fruity flavor taste. In contrast, the the buttery flavor of the nougat inside this candy blends wonderfully with the Bourbon.
Champagne and Strawberry Lollipops
Who doesn’t love Strawberries and Champagne?
Rum and Almond Joy or Mounds and Butterfinger
Rum and coconut will have you thinking about which tropical location you want to spend your winter vacation at. And buttery rum and peanut buttery Butterfinger can’t be a bad idea either.
Rye and Reese’s Pieces or Cups
The bite of whiskey and the graininess of peanut butter compliment each other nicely.
Tequila and Junior Mints
Freeze these treats first and throw in your drink, or just snack as you go.
Vodka and Hot Tamales, Skittles, Smarties or Starburst
Vodka is so pure it can pair with just about anything. We’d try freezing some tamales to use as ice to give a little cinnamon infusion to your vodka as your drink. By the handful is good too. There are fruity flavored vodkas for a reason, and instead of shelling out cash for that, try it with Skittles or Starburst. Smarties’ pure sugar consistency can only pair with vodka.
Wine
Sparkling wines and Sweet Whites with Nerds, Skittles or Starburst
Like your vodkas, these sparkling and slightly sweet whites pair best with super sugary candies. Be warned, the sugar-packed combo might cause a headache in the morning.
Dessert Wines with Heath Bar, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups or Twix
Already sweet and hearty, these heavier dessert wines need a substantial candy. One stuffed with ooey-gooey goodness. Fair warning, the kids will notice if you eat too many of their peanut butter cups.
Dry and Rich Whites with Butterfinger, Candy Corn, Skittles, Hershey’s
These dry drinks need something really sweet or rich to take away their sharp tones. Oh, and have we recommended using those stemless glasses yet? Because those are a huge help around the kids who wake up from their sugar comas and start stumbling around.
Reds with Almond Joy, M&M’s, Mounds, Snickers, Tootsie Rolls or Twix
Nice dark red with your finest assortment of chocolate. We’d even suggest mixing and matching your candy treats so the kids don’t notice as quickly their missing snacks.
You may be worried that you haven’t seen as much chocolate listed here as you would have liked, but please don’t panic! Last but never least, plain old Chocolate will pair with just about anything. So if you need a quick fix just grab that chocolate bar and your favorite drink and enjoy!
